Garden City (MI) 54th Annual Santaland Parade

December 5, 2014

It has been a very long time since I went to the Santaland Parade in my hometown of Garden City, Michigan, which is traditionally the Saturday following Thanksgiving. And for many, many years we spent Thanksgiving Weekend visiting the in-laws in Northern Michigan.

Nowadays, we can be found at home on Thanksgiving Weekend. This year, my sister-in-law reminded me of the parade and invited to me attend with her and some other family members. Fortunately, the weather cooperated and with my parents’ health somewhat stable, I decided to go.

Despite my being on hiatus from my photography, I knew I would have to take my camera as it was a great opportunity to capture some wonderful holiday moments. But I wanted to use a long lens to get “up close and personal” with parade participants, floats, etc.; and since I loaned my Canon 75-300 to my aspiring photographer niece in Tennessee for a few months, I borrowed my brother’s Canon 70-200 f/2.8. Oh what fun I had!!

Below are a few photos from the event. Click the following link to see the full gallery of 143 photos on my portfolio website and enjoy the parade!
