Photo-of-the-Day / 2012-05-08 / Twelve Days of Photos

May 9, 2012

It is hard to believe my last photo-of-the-day post was on April 26th, just before my husband and I headed to Florida’s Panhandle – Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Miramar Beach – for our 30th wedding anniversary vacation.  We had an absolutely wonderful time relaxing by the pool, golfing, spending quality time with great friends and photographing the long anticipated beach wedding of a special couple. We drove straight home yesterday, through six states in 17 1/2 hours, which included a few fuel stops, both gasoline and food, and some pesky weather and traffic delays through Ohio. So now it is time to play catch up! Therefore, today, you will see not one photo-of-the-day, but twelve photos for the past twelve days!  Enjoy!

# 1 of 12 / 2012-04-27 / Detroit Lion

Many Detroit Lions fans are eagerly anticipating the 2012 NFL season which actually started April 26th with the 2012 NFL draft.  Fans are hoping the results of this draft will help extend the regular season well into 2013.  To recognize those hopes and dreams, I decided to post a photo of a real live Detroit Lion – LOL.  Actually I believe this is a Lioness, which is maybe what the team really needs, which I shot at the Detroit Zoo during a July 2009 visit with some of our Danish cousins!

# 2 of 12 / 2012-04-28 / Alabama

We started our road trip to Florida’s Panhandle bright (or I should say dark) and early Saturday morning April 28th at 3:00 a.m.  We arrived in Franklin, Tennessee  around 10:30 am (central time) to drop off some things  to the engaged  couple whose wedding I would be photographing one week from that day.  We continued our road trip and stopped at the Alabama Visitor Center (rest stop) where I just had to snap a photo of the state sign with my Droid camera phone. There was also a fairly tall replica of a NASA rocket but I couldn’t compose a good enough shot to include both the sign and the rocket, so have opted to just post a photo of the sign. We then spent the night at a Holiday Inn Express in Cullman, Alabama, a community which surprisingly had just recognized the one year anniversary of a devastating tornado the day before.

We said goodbye to the interstate just south of Montgomery and drove the scenic backroads of southern Alabama before driving through a little town called Florala (Florida/Alabama) at the Alabama/Florida state line. And, of course, I had to snap a photo as we drove past the Florida state sign!

We eventually arrived at what would be our home away from home for 8 nights – The Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort in Miramar Beach, Florida.  We stayed in the Luau 2 building in a 9th floor one bedroom condo.  We found the condo through Vacation Rentals by Owner (  The rental was actually through Crye Leike Coastal Realty which included an amenity package through Destin Getaways.  The resort is located right on the Gulf of Mexico in an area of Florida known as The Emerald Coast because of the color of the water. I think it should be also be called The Sugary Coast because that is exactly how the white sandy beaches feel.

# 4 of 12 / 2012-04-30 / Sunset on The Emerald Coast

Since I had not picked up a golf club since last fall, we spent our first afternoon in Florida golfing at a small executive course called The Golf Garden so I could brush up on my game before tackling the big resort courses. After dinner at Red Lobster in Fort Walton Beach, we capped the day off with a walk along the beach at sunset.  What a glorious first full day in Florida!

# 5 of 12 / 2012-05-01 / May Day Golf

Aaahhh, what can I say about the view from our condo other than it was gorgeous. Our room overlooked the Luau pool and Hole # 14 of the Sandestin Baytowne Golf Course which we golfed in a little over 4 hours. It was a beautiful but challenging course, but I am a firm believer that “a bad day on the golf course is still better than a good day at work”.

# 6 of 12 / 2012-05-02 / Golf Course Beauty

Golf courses are filled with beautiful flora and fauna and The Baytowne Course at Sandestin is no exception.  I love taking my camera with me when I golf because there is much beauty just waiting to be captured and preserved.

# 7 of 12 / 2012-05-03 / Blue Water Bay Golf Course

Remember earlier I mentioned that we spent quality time with good friends? . A lot of that time was spent on the golf course at the Blue Water Bay Resort. Here is our friend teeing off  on one of the prettiest par 3 holes I have scene. Another beautiful golf course where I continued to sharpen my skills.  The ladies on my golf league are in for a surprise – LOL!

# 8 of 12 / 2012-05-04 / A Mani-Pedi Day

Spent the afternoon at the nail salon with the bride-to-be, her mom and bridesmaids for a little pre-wedding pampering! I even had my nails done – my first French Mani/Pedi

# 9 of 12 / 2012-05-05 / The Beach Wedding

It was an absolutely beautiful day for a beach wedding. The bride was gorgeous, the groom was handsome, the sun was shining, the sand was surgary and the emerald waters sparkled.  It was my first wedding as the primary photographer and I am hopeful that I was successful in capturing and preserving the memories of such a special day.  Stay tuned for more photos.

# 10 of 12 / 2012-05-06 / Gone Golfin’ Again

We spent our last day in Florida golfing – again – at the Blue Water Bay Golf Course.  It was a warm afternoon, but cooled down after a front moved through which also brought a few sprinkles. We finished the day with burgers at Cheeseburgers in Paradise!

# 11 of 12 / 2012-05-07 / Goodbye Florida

Said goodbye to our home away from home and hit the road for the long drive back to the Mitten!

# 12 of 12 / 2012-05-08 / Back to Reality

Yes, it is back to reality tomorrow. So I have posted a photo of where I work! At least it is a short work week!
