Preparing For My 1st Family Photo Shoot

April 5, 2012

My first family photo session is scheduled for this evening and I’m so excited.  I’m also making my list and checking it twice.

Location:  CHECK – This will be an outdoor photo shoot at a beautiful municipal park (check back later for more details) which offers a unique variety of background options.

Weather:  CHECK – It will be a little chilly, high of 50 with a slight wind, but at least the sun is shining and it’s not raining!

Clients:  CHECK – A very nice young couple and their two children who have volunteered to help me build my portfolio.  I’ve provided them with my consent/release form to sign and bring to the shoot, along with a few tips to help them prepare so we will get the most out of their session. I’m pretty sure we are going to have a LOT of fun.

Equipment:  CHECK – Two Canon DSLR cameras, three Canon lenses and hoods, a Canon Speedlight flash, several fully charged batteries along with several clean, high capacity, camera cards. In addition to these basic necessities, I’ve packed a blanket (for sitting on the ground) and a couple of items to protect my knees for those “get down on the ground, lower angle shots.  Forgot my reflector, so will stick to the shade if necessary.
Lighting:  CHECK – Since this is an outdoor setting, I’ll make use of the natural sunlight but will use fill flash if needed. More importantly, I’ll be able to take advantage of “the photographer’s happy hour and use the soft light from the setting sun.

Business Cards:  CHECK – Small supply stored in my bag to hand out to my clients and passersby.

Well, I think I’m all set!  Check back later to have a look at some of the results.
