Aaahhh – The Mackinac Bridge – spanning the Straits for more than 50 years!

The Straits of Mackinac is the strip of water that connects Lake Michigan and Lake Huron and separates Michigan’s two peninsulas.  I’ve been vacationing in the Straits area since I was a baby!  Every single time I catch my first glimpse of those towering twin spans on the horizon as I make the drive north on I-75, I literally catch my breath before breaking out into the biggest grin!  It makes me feel like a kid again.  The first sight of the full five-mile length in all its glory is simply breathtaking.  Over the past 40 years, I have literally taken hundreds of photos of “The Mighty Mac”, as we Michiganders so fondly call our bridge.   This particular photo is one of my all-time favorites taken in September of 2008, while I was escorting some of my Danish relatives on a whirlwind tour of Michigan.  The photo was taken from the Bridge View Park in the Upper Peninsula looking south to the Lower Peninsula.
